The Equality Act, the legal basis for setting up the Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR), has received Royal Assent.
From October 2007 CEHR will take over the work of the Disability Rights Commission and the Equal Opportunities Commission, with the Commission for Racial Equality following in 2009. It will also deal with discrimination issues around age and religion.
