Steps to international NGO accountability

12th June 2006, 12:55 pm

The first international, cross-sectoral code of conduct for Non-Governmental Organisations has been endorsed by 11 international NGOs, including ActionAid, Greenpeace, Oxfam, Survival International, World YWCA, Save the Children and Amnesty.

The Accountability Charter is only the first step and a robust system for reporting and review will be put in place so that it can be improved and updated in light of experience. A copy can be found on Amnesty International’s site at http://web.amnesty.org/pages/312-060606-news-eng, Oxfam news item at http://www.oxfam.org/en/news/pressreleases2006/pr060607_ngo_charter.
