People with learning difficulties and employment

1st September 2006, 1:20 pm

A report ‘Improving Work Opportunities for People with a Learning Disability’, which according to Community Care was written 18 months ago but only published this July, raises concerns about a worrying number of learning disability employment providers that appear to be in breach of the NMW (National Minimum Wage legislation). Previous to the NMW being introduced in 1999 it was legal, and common, for workshop schemes to provide just a small daily allowance.

See Community Care, or download the report (relevant section from para 4.21) at http://valuingpeople.gov.uk/dynamic/valuingpeople2.jsp.
