Empty property rate relief

Legislation to “modernise business rate relief for empty properties”, announced in the Budget in March, was published on 11th May, and is due to come in from April 2008. This will reduce the relief to just the first 3 months, but it has been confirmed that charities and community amateur sports clubs will be granted a complete exemption from rates on their empty properties.
