A further two members of the board of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator are being recruited. The Scottish government has agreed that members can now be paid, £200 a day plus expenses.

The Fire Protection Agency is putting on a series of workshops in Scotland which give an overview of the new Fire Safety laws and 5 steps to fire safety risk assessment.

The first ever national survey of amateur arts groups in England will launch on 1st February, and groups from all artistic areas, from music, dance and crafts, to theatre, visual arts and literature, are encouraged to participate.

The 2008 round of awards from the Sheila McKechnie Foundation, which will help emerging and grassroots campaigners improve their skills, is now open.
They will make 12 awards “across key fields of social action”, with the package of support tailored to the individual, comprising an initial assessment, one-to-one coaching and mentoring sessions, development workshops and shadowing opportunities.

New research concludes that businesses should offer paid leave and a greater choice of activities if they are to successfully engage staff in community projects.
The study from Institute for Volunteering Research and the National Centre for Social Research is based on the 2007 Helping Out national survey. Volunteering England news item.
