Categorising online video

22nd April 2008

A study from Work Research has come up with a three way categorisation of Online Video:

- Snippets, material of 5 seconds to 5 minutes on the likes of YouTube, not taking all the viewer’s attention.
- Boutique, mini videos from 2 to 5 minutes, task-based viewing where content is instructional or helps with information gathering around keen interests.
- Catch-up, from 5 minutes to feature length, where PC becomes a second TV.

No immediately obvious voluntary sector angle on this, except that it may help to decide whether a charity video is aiming for the first or second category. From PublicTechnology.net.

Building a UK Vision coalition

21st April 2008

A “ground-breaking initiative” bringing together a huge range of individuals and organisations has created a UK Vision Strategy,  launched at a conference on 18th April.

Third Sector reports RNIB chief executive and chair of the coalition’s advisory group Lesley-Anne Alexander as saying “I was astounded that there are 733 UK charities that have something to do with sight loss, and that we didn’t all get along with each other.” There are now more than 650 signed up to the Strategy, which could be an example for coalition building across other interests.
