Courses for Cultural Entrepreneurs

18th January 2008

Both the Liverpool and the East Midlands Schools for Social Entrepreneurs have 10 places available (fully funded by the Cultural Leadership Programme) on courses running mid February to end of July, for individuals setting up or growing cultural projects that have a social or environmental impact.

Community radio in the midlands

Ofcom’s next regional round for applications for community radio licences covers West Midlands, East Midlands and Lincolnshire. It opens 10th October with a deadline of 15th January.

Foundation degree in managing organisations

13th March 2007

The University of Leicester is offering a new Foundation Degree course in ‘Managing Voluntary and Community Organisations’ with a “fully interactive learning experience”. Starting April 2007, it is aimed at those working in the  sector and delivered by people with hands-on experience of the sector too.

Funding volunteer centres

A report on ‘A Sustainable Funding Framework for Volunteer Centres’, produced by Northampton Volunteering Centre for the Volunteering Hub, has been published. This is part of developing a modernised high-quality network across England.

The funding formula it comes up with is:
Funding amount = (£56,000 + (POPULATION – 9.2) x 85.25 + (AREA – 290) x 0.193 + (IMD – 5.09) x 1711.8 + (AUTHORITIES – 1) x 5094.4) x ACA.

Volunteering studies

‘Voluntary Sector and Volunteering’ is a new certificate course from University of Derby which gives an appreciation of volunteering and awareness of the voluntary sector. Designed to be studied mainly online with limited attendance at the University.

National Youth Volunteering Service

10th March 2006

Chancellor Gordon Brown continues to promote the soon-to-launch national youth volunteering programme, and last week chaired the first cross-departmental meeting on it, wrote in the Daily Mail and visited a youth project in Leicester.

Developing strategic ICT plans

A total of 30 UK online centres across England have been selected as part of the first phase of a net:gain project (funded under ChangeUp).

This aims to build the ICT capabilities of voluntary and community organisations, helping them to develop and implement strategic ICT plans.
